You know what would go a long way if the people who owned it just came out and said something just anything. Not "soon" we will do this or that. I mean a solid we are putting TRO up for auction bids start at 20k or restart their forums or at least have a facebook page. Just something to let us know they give a shit anymore. Do a comp period to get people playing again or just go ahead and sell the damn thing already. Hell they could sell licensing fees for people who wanted to run private servers.
If I bought the game with my lottery dream I would keep up the original realm. Get a few devs for it and some customer service. Then I would just lease an already existing licensed engine and make a Realm based game. Basically all the same town names, same dungeons, same type of theme for each dungeon and keep the classes and races pretty basic. I would never expect to make money on it I would just keep it going for the sake of keeping a piece of MMORPG history running.
In the end MMORPGs are shiny and all but I never stay at any one game very long without a good community. It is why I played EQ, DAOC, and WOW for as long as I did because I was running with the same guild every time. The game did not matter just the people I was playing it with. While I would never dream of millions of people playing TRO I could see a solid community staying with it over the years if it was continued to be developed. Heck UO and EQ still have live active servers with thousands of players on each.
If anyone lives around the area go knock on some doors and tell them to come to these forums and just say something.
