About a year and a half ago, Sony announced the end of Vanguard, and the players weren't happy.
They had struggled for months to get support on the game, to fix problems introduced by a patch that seemed designed to destroy it (and as it turned out later, it was, but that is for another discussion), and to no avail.
When their offers to pay subscriptions upward of $50/month and even writing a check to cover the game's costs in total for 6 months were ignored and the game closed, some of them weren't willing to give up.
So several of them, some with no development background at all, who learned specifically for the project, began to rebuild it.
While there are core systems yet to be added, and content missing, they have come a very long way,

I find their accomplishment reassuring, as some of them (as I noted) learned these skills purely for the project, while we have the Original Lead Designer/Programmer working on TRR.
