You know the last time I saw the game truly alive was during the comp period. For sale was actually scrolling faster than it could be read and the screens for imp haven were full you could not get into them.
I have been playing the game since 96 and while my toons were rich I only had one EB on one toon. Within a few hours I had about 30 EBs. I remember how pissed off the townies were because items they had been hording for a decade were quickly becoming worthless.
TBH I always played the game as kind of a single player game. When I played back in the 90s I had a group of friends that I logged on and grouped with. We all left for EQ at some point. When I came back to the game years later I just ran my own group. So I had no real empathy for the people yelling about their pixels.
I was shocked out how pissed off the townies were about the comp period. They were screaming all over the boards about the game being ruined and screaming in chat about how the game was being ruined because their monopoly of all the high end pixels was coming to an end. I remember one post of someone demanding the comp period end because their XXX years of hard work was all for nothing and calling for all the oldtimers to quit and wreck the game finically.
I have to admit it was the last time I saw the game with any life at all. It was the last time people were excited to play again and the last time I saw hundreds of accounts on line. They should do something like that again just to bring back the people for one last party.
